Datasets

The first data set covers 23 OECD countries from 1944 to 2013 and contains data on:

  • Party positions on a Left vs. Right dimension (lr)
  • The core positions of parties on the Left/Right dimension (lr_core)
  • The importance of the Left vs. Right dimension (lr_imp)
  • Country and time specific Left vs. Right positions (lr_plus)

The Manifesto team published new data with new as well as corrected cases in 2011. These changes naturally alter the empirical estimates. We therefore revised the indices as described in the Research Note on LR Update.

The second data set includes:

  • Veto Player Index with time-variant Left vs. Right positions for 23 countries, including more Second Chambers (jahn2)
  • Tsebelis' Veto Player Index with time-invariant Left vs. Right positions for 21 countries (tsebelis)
  • Henisz's Veto Player Index (polcon)
  • Schmidt's Veto Point Index, time variant (instcons)
  • Wagschal's Veto Point Index, time variant (wagschal)

The revision of the Left/Right party scores (see the Research Note on LR Update for more details) affects the veto player indices. You will find the updated and extended data in the download section.
